Tea and Hydration
At the Tea Expo we took a class about debunking certain myths that have been perpetuated about drinking tea. One such myth has to do with the idea that drinking tea will dehydrate you, due to its diuretic effect because of the caffeine content. Scientists have been studying this for quite awhile. The latest news is that you have to drink a very large amount of caffeine in a single serving (the equivalent to 5-8 cups of black tea) to have such a negative effect. Drinking a single serving will have little or no effect.
Tea hydrates the body as effectively as water, and since it is recommended that you drink 6 to 8 glasses of water a day, why not choose tea to help with that count? It tastes good, you can drink it hot or cold, and the flavors are endless. If caffeine bothers you in other ways, then stick to Rooibos and fruit infusions…your choices are endless there, too.
