A Perfect Cuppa
Each ounce of tea that you purchase will generally produce 10-15 cups of tea. This count is based on a 6-8 oz. cup of tea. Many of us, however, will drink our teas from a 10 oz. cup or larger, so an ounce won’t last us as long.
When brewing your first cup of a new tea, always start with 1 teaspoon of tea and follow the water temperature and steeping time on your label. From there it’s up to you. Need a stronger cup? Use more tea. Too strong? Use less tea for your next brew. Keep in mind, a good cup of tea is how you enjoy it. Remember to always use purified water, so that the taste is all tea and not minerals or additives in the water. And never boil the same water twice.
Most teas may be infused a second or third time. In the United States we tend to throw out the leaves after our first cup, but in many cases, there’s a taste treat waiting for you with a second and third infusion. Give it a try. Let us know which teas you enjoy infusing more than once. Just remember that, with each infusion, lessen the steeping times by a minute or two. That will keep the tea from becoming bitter.
